Burj Al Arab, Seven-star Your Journey

January 9th, 2010 by dee

What occurs to you when mentioning No.1 luxury hotels? Burj Al Arab, of course. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Burj Al Arab is the only seven-star luxury hotel in the world. With a height of 321 m, it is the second highest building in the world used particularly as a hotel, right lower than the Rose Tower, also in Dubai, which is 12 meters taller.

The Burj Al Arab means “Tower of Arabs”. It is designed to symbolize Dubai’s urban transformation, which is just like the Sydney with its Opera House or Paris with its Eiffel Tower. Construction of Burj Al Arab started in 1994. Its appearance mimics the sail of dhow, which stands for speed and is also a type of Arabian vessel. Now The Burj Al Arab has already become the icon of Dubai. It cost US$650 million to build the hotel.

Despite its size, the Burj Al Arab holds only 28 double-storey floors offering accommodation of 202 bedroom suites. The smallest suite covers an area of 169 square meters, while the largest occupies 780 square meters. It serves as one of the most expensive hotels in the world. The cost of staying in a suite per night starts with US$1,000. The most expensive suite, the Royal Suite, begins at US$28,000. Excellent service and perfect environment makes Burj Al Arab you choice second to none. One of its restaurants, Al Muntaha, stands at the height of 200 meters above the Persian Gulf, offering a magnificent view of Dubai. There you can enjoy yourself to delicious food delicately prepared by world-class chef. Another restaurant, the Al Mahara, features a large seawater aquarium, holding roughly 990,000 liters of water. The restaurant was also crowned as the top ten best restaurants of the world by Condé Nast Traveler.

Despite its high praise, Burj Al Arab is also criticized as “a contradiction of sorts, considering how well-designed and impressive the construction”, saying it is a monument of triumph of money. Yet this, to some extent, further shows that Burj Al Arab is an incomparable and fabulous hotel.
